The evolution of workspace

Reimagining the future of work to create space for our new work life
720 is the venue for Cbus Property’s new Future of Work LivingWork Lab, an innovative partnership model that aims to transform the way we think about work in this new hybrid work reality.
With communities seeking greater human connection and wellbeing, ever more inclusive spaces and evolved thinking around workplace culture, the purpose of buildings globally is being called to change. The newly created LivingWork Lab brings together product, sustainability, business, data and design experts to collaborate directly with customers and the community to reimagine the role of workplace accommodation and 720’s potential.
This presents an unprecedented opportunity to bring together Australia’s most progressive minds with building users, to reconsider how Australian workplaces can better reflect the ways in which we are really living and working, using 720 as a demo space to test and trial ideas in a real-life setting.
This partnership will uncover new opportunities for us to better support, learn from and add value to our customers’ working lives.

This website will be updated with more detail as the project progresses.

First Peoples co-design

In the spirit of Reconciliation and paving the way for a more inclusive Australia, Cbus Property and the 720 LivingWork Lab aspire to lead by example in a First Peoples co-design process. Our vision is to ensure our built environment is reflective of First Peoples culture and allows space for storytelling and showcasing the world’s oldest living culture. The cultural intelligence leadership of the consortium extends an open invitation for cultural learning with all people who engage with 720. In this process, we hope to benchmark culturally safe spaces for First Peoples and create a safe learning environment for others with enriching opportunities for place-based storytelling.

720 is located on a significant site for First Peoples of the Wurundjeri, Boon Wurrung and Bunerong People of the East Kulin Nation. The pre-colonial landscape was once a special place between the ‘Blue Salt Water Lagoon’ and the Birrarung tidal waterways, where salt water and fresh water ecosystem knowledges met. There was an abundance of biodiversity on Country for trade, where different language groups would meet and innovate. However, in the context of the current urban fabric, this place-based storytelling has had little acknowledgement or visibility in placemaking, something we are proposing to change through the transformation of 720.
As 720 seeks to provide leadership in sustainability, we cannot lose sight of the relevance this has to First Peoples spiritual obligation as custodians of Country. Through our interventions, we aim to reduce our impact on the surrounding environment and respond to the notion of caring for Country in a modern context, whilst leveraging 65,000 years of knowledge adapting to changing climatic conditions. By reducing our emissions, waste and impact on the surrounding environment, we can seek to reverse the impact we have had on the environment around us.
720 aims to provide leadership in reconciling relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and extend this relationship to reconcile relationships with the natural and built environment. 720 aims to bring a holistic view to sustainability and provide leadership in combining environmental, cultural, economic, and social impact with reciprocal exchange and self-determination opportunity for First Peoples.
For the 720 consortium, this extends beyond a token engagement piece. This is a commitment to leading change by actively participating in processes that support Indigenous Voice, Truth and Treaty with ongoing conversations with First Peoples within our community. 720 seeks to create new narratives of reconciliation and leadership in caring for Country together. This learning will not only permeate through the placemaking of 720 but promises to create a ripple effect for leading sustainability on a world stage.
